At IFA 2025, Lenovo unveiled its next generation of ThinkPad P Series mobile workstations. Long known as the company’s most powerful ThinkPads, the new lineup — led by the ThinkPad P16 Gen 3, ThinkPad P1 Gen 8, and ThinkPad P16v Gen 3 — delivers impressive performance, AI-ready capabilities, and a sharper focus on portability and design.
Luca Rossi, President of Lenovo’s Intelligent Devices Group, explained that with the redesigned ThinkPad P Series, Lenovo is delivering mobile workstations with desktop-level performance, advanced thermal management, and ISV certification, to handle the most demanding professional workflows.
Built for data scientists, engineers, 3D artists, and researchers handling mission-critical tasks, the P Series is ISV-certified to run enterprise-grade software, including CAD and SolidWorks, as well as advanced AI modeling tools. This year’s update blends hardware muscle with refinements in weight, thermal design, and connectivity, making Lenovo’s flagship workstation portfolio more mobile than ever.
ThinkPad P16 Gen 3: A Desktop Replacement Reimagined
ThinkPad P16 Gen 3
The star of the portfolio is the redesigned ThinkPad P16 Gen 3, a true desktop replacement that is now both lighter and more powerful. Lenovo engineers shaved its starting weight down from 6.5 lbs to 5.6 lbs, thanks to a refined chassis and new materials. Despite the weight cut, thermal headroom remains generous, allowing the machine to drive high-end components at full tilt.
Under the hood, the P16 Gen 3 introduces Intel’s new Aero Lake Ultra 200 HX processors, offering up to 24 cores at 5.5GHz. Integrated NPUs accelerate AI workflows locally, while graphics come courtesy of up to NVIDIA RTX PRO 5000 Blackwell GPUs with GDDR7. Lenovo emphasized that these GPUs share architecture with NVIDIA’s 50-series gaming cards, but are optimized for professional workloads, such as 3D modeling, AI development, and simulation.
Memory support scales to a staggering 192GB DDR5 (non-ECC) or 128GB ECC, with 12TB of PCIe Gen5 SSD storage across three drives. The 16-inch 3.2K OLED Touch display delivers color accuracy and HDR visuals critical for design workflows, and Lenovo teased an upcoming Tandem OLED option for even greater brightness and efficiency.
The P16 also debuts Thunderbolt 5, doubling bandwidth over the previous generation, along with slimmer GaN chargers — moving from a 135W brick to a more compact 140W USB-C design. For professionals carrying their workstation between the office and the field, this is a meaningful improvement in mobility.

ThinkPad P1 Gen 8: The “X1 of the P Series”
For those who demand workstation power in a lighter package, Lenovo is refreshing the ThinkPad P1 Gen 8. Now running on Aero Lake Ultra 200 H processors (up to 16 cores, 5.4GHz) and NVIDIA RTX PRO 2000 Blackwell GPUs, the P1 balances portability with enterprise-grade performance.
Lenovo positioned it as the “X1 equivalent of the P Series” — sleek, modern, and highly portable while still ISV-certified. Weighing just 1.84kg (4.06 lbs), the P1 is targeted at mobile professionals such as content creators, CAD specialists, and developers who need workstation power without breaking their backs.
The P1 supports up to 64GB LPDDR5x memory and 8TB of Gen5 SSD storage, with visuals handled by a 16-inch 3.2K OLED Touch panel. It adds Thunderbolt 5 connectivity for high-bandwidth peripherals, alongside HDMI 2.1 and Wi-Fi 7. Dolby Atmos speakers, a hybrid 5MP camera, and human presence detection complete the premium feature set.
ThinkPad P16v Gen 3: Workstation Power at Better Value
For value-driven professionals, the ThinkPad P16v Gen 3 offers a compelling balance of price and performance. It ships with Intel Core Ultra 200 H processors and NVIDIA RTX PRO 2000 Blackwell GPUs, along with support for up to 96GB DDR5 memory and 4TB of Gen5 SSD storage.
The redesigned chassis houses a 16-inch UHD+ OLED display with a 16:10 aspect ratio and slim bezels, giving it a modern and immersive feel. Enterprise-grade I/O includes Thunderbolt 4, HDMI 2.1, Wi-Fi 7, optional 5G, SD Express 7.0, and smart card readers. At 2.1kg, it remains portable while delivering workstation-class reliability at a more accessible price point.
More Than Hardware: AI Workflows and Services
Lenovo is framing these machines not only as high-performance workstations, but as engines for AI workflows. The new P Series integrates with Lenovo AI Developer, a full-stack suite combining open-source frameworks and AI libraries with Lenovo’s hardware.
To help enterprises deploy at scale, Lenovo also offers AI PC Services — including AI Fast Start, Care of One, and AI PC Premier Support — covering provisioning, proactive management, and endpoint protection. These services are designed to accelerate time-to-value for organizations investing in AI-ready PCs.
Pricing and Availability
The new ThinkPad P Series begins rolling out globally in September 2025. The ThinkPad P1 Gen 8 and ThinkPad P16v Gen 3 will be available first, starting at $2,819.00 and $2,249.00, respectively. The flagship ThinkPad P16 Gen 3 will follow in October 2025, starting at $3,339.00. Lenovo is also refreshing the broader family with the ThinkPad P16s Gen 4 and ThinkPad P14s Gen 6, available in September at $1,859.00 and $1,819.00.
